As we approach not only a new month but also a new year I've been thinking about the next mantra. First I invite you to reread this post I wrote 7 years ago to take a moment for gratitude for all that has past this year.

It actually came to me pretty quickly yesterday when I meditated on what I wanted for January. I recently taught a heart centered meditation where we drop into the heart space to be best able to meet others unconditionally, and accept where they are. Something I know I need to do around the holidays, and it occured to me "Isn't this exactly what this world needs more of?" So keeping it short and sweet, this months mantra is
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
May all beings be happy and free. Sometimes known as a meta meditation. We hold space for life on this planet.
Not just those we agree with. Not those who are the same religion. Not just those who have the same skin colour. Not the same species, not those we know... All.
This is the difficult part. It is quite easy to love those you know, your friends and family. It is sometimes easy to feel compassion and connection to neighbours and strangers. But it is much harder to do with people you don't like, don't agree with, people who have hurt you. This is the invitation.
When we chant this we hold a place in that heart centre for all beings, and maybe perhaps a little more for the ones that it is challenging with. Let's make this year a year of compassion, connection, and uncondtional love. Lets start a movement. It starts here and now.
You can hear me chant this 108 times here. For the record this is a hard chant for me for some reason. I usually mess up quite a few times. Only once in this recording. Leading chanting has been a great gift in learning to surrender control and go with the flow!
